The “GET – It’s Global Education Time” project is kicking off in Italy with a series of events organized by CISP in partnership with GAL Terre Locridee. These activities, set to take place over the coming months in the Locride area of Calabria (Southern Italy), will focus on the theme of "sports for development."
This initiative in Calabria is part of the larger GET project, which spans eight countries and is supported by the European Union. It also aligns with the International Olympic Committee’s "Olympism 365" strategy, with backing from Fundación SES (Argentina).
The program targets sports educators, trainers, and young people aged 14 to 19, introducing them to the sports-for-development methodology. The goal is to foster socio-emotional skills, citizenship, and youth leadership through sports activities.
On Tuesday, October 22, a meeting will be held at the GAL Terre Locridee headquarters to outline the next phases of the project to all involved parties.
Following this, on October 23 and 24, a workshop titled Sport, Education, and Livelihoods will take place. This training on the sports-for-development approach will feature experts such as José María Ñanco and Maria Esparza Gonzalez from Fundación SES, alongside Giordana Francia and Raffaella De Luca from CISP. It will be hosted at the Zaleuco-Oliveti-Panetta-Zanotti high school in Locri and is designed for sports teachers, coaches, and educators working with adolescents.
The workshop will introduce participants to the core principles of sports for development, helping them prepare for hands-on sports labs with their students, teams, or youth groups.
Sports have long been a priority in Locride, supported by well-established sports facilities throughout the region.
CISP is leading this project to emphasize the role of sports as a powerful tool for developing key personal and social competencies in both girls and boys. These skills contribute to quality education and enhance youth employability, better preparing them for their future.
CISP and its partners have chosen to support the global Olympism365 strategy because they share its vision of sports as a tool for sustainable development and a common good that benefits everyone, every day, everywhere.
