Safe Communities for safe Children and Adolescents

The project contributes to the strengthening of the child protection system in Kenya to prevent and respond to violence, abuse, exploitation and cultural practices harmful to children by promoting their physical, mental and social well-being.

The project is based on the Child Protection Strategy developed by CISP as a combination of approaches and methodologies to address the specific problem of child protection, from the perspectives of response, prevention and advocacy.

The project has four main components:

1. prevention of child abuse, exploitation and violence, through innovative and proven social change approaches that discourage negative beliefs and behaviours that contribute to the violation of children's rights and increase the capacity of target communities to protect their children
2. the participation and empowerment of children and adolescents, through Child Rights Clubs and talk boxes in schools, support groups for teenage mothers and the use of communication and art methodologies for social change
3. strengthening the child protection system, through quality improvement, coordination and inclusion of integrated services, with technical and material support to the Department of Services for Minors
4. research and participatory advocacy to analyse specific child protection gaps and promote awareness-raising actions at national and county level.
